Ishida Shouya is intensely waging war against boredom, his greatest enemy. As he enters his sixth and final year of elementary school, a new transfer student joins his class; Nishimiya Shouko, a deaf girl. His curiosity manifests in the form of persistent teasing, and when it all comes to a head, he finds himself abandoned by all his friends, with Shouko transferring away shortly after.
Five years later, led by a quiet resolve, Shouya seeks out Shouko. Upon meeting her again, he strives to make amends for what he did, and give the her good memories she deserves.
